Evidenced-based treatments to help you thrive and achieve lasting happiness
"Our expanded awareness enables us to bring more of ourselves and thus more resources to bear on whatever problems or difficulties we may be facing."
Wisdom Of The Enneagram
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
For too long psychology has focused almost exclusively on having clients relive past traumatic events in therapy. While telling one's story is vital, it is only part of the therapeutic process. It is more beneficial to focus on your strengths, character, virtues and how you can use these more effectively in your life right now. It is possible to overcome self-defeating thoughts and create a meaning and thriving life.
Our work will delve into five areas:
1. POSITIVE EMOTIONS
Increase the ability to focus on what went well and how to get more of it in your life
2. ENGAGEMENT
Learn to enhance your enjoyment of pleasure
3. POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
"Other people are the best antidote to the downs of life and the single most reliable up."
- Dr. Martin Seligman
4. MEANINGFULNESS
Independent of "good feelings" meaningfulness is about being part of something larger
than yourself
5. MASTERY/ACHIEVEMENT
Learning to do something well brings a sense of well-being
MARRIAGE/FAMILY THERAPY
Using these same principles but incorporating systems theory (everyone's actions impacts everyone else in the family) I examine the presenting problem and work toward common goals.
Being aware of your "number" (1 thru 9) or type brings about a transformative experience whereby you have a sudden and in-depth understanding of your core fears, desires, motivations, stregnths, and weakenesses.
The Enneagram is a deeply personal and transformative system of understanding who you are and why you do what you do. It also gives you a greater understanding of who you are in relation to other personality types.
One of the greatest gifts of the Ennegram is that it provides an opportunity to talk about the positive and negatives aspects of ourselves and others in a neutral space. This neutral territory becomes a safe place to delve into issues involving marriage, parenting, or professional development.
Dr. Martin Seligman, one of the original pioneers in Positive Psychology research states, "Since World War II, psychology has focused its efforts on psychological problems and how to remedy them. These efforts have reaped large dividends. Great strides have been made in understanding and treating psychological disorders. Effective treatments now exist for more than a dozen disorders that were once seen as intractable
One consequence of this focus on psychological problems, however, is that psychology has little to say about what makes life most worth living. Positive psychology proposes to correct this imbalance by focusing on strengths as well as weaknesses, on building the best things in life as well as repairing the worst. It asserts that human goodness and excellence is just as authentic as distress and disorder, that life entails more than the undoing of problems."
